How many filters for your gas mask?
We often see the question of how much ammo to keep on hand and I imagine there are a lot of people that have some sort of gas mask as a standard part of their prep kit. I have recently upgraded my mask from an older M-17 to a new M-40. I also researched available filters to find the best one (and it isnt the military C2A1...Several of the first responder and commercial filters will protect one from all the same warfare agents as the C2A1 filter and will also cover you for ammonia and chlorine based and other industrial gases which the military filter wont. In addition their tested protection times are often greater than the military version. Given all the out-dated and recalled C2A1s on auction sites, they seem to be a waste of money.. but that is another post).
Aside from CN, CS tear gas used at your local protest gathering, the most likely usefulness for a mask is in the case of fires spreading toxic chemicals and smoke, or from an accidental chemical spill involving a business, truck or train near your location. Of course there is always the remote possibility of a terrorist bio or nuke attack, but I think there are everyday hazards that are more likely than looking over my shoulder for an airburst and yellow cloud. So now the question comes, of how many filters per person, do you think one should keep on hand? |
Re: How many filters for your gas mask?
